Clun and Cormo!

Fiber: Pink, green, and white Clun/Cormo mix, 8 oz; gifted by Secret Pal 2 Mia
Vendor: Spirit Trail Fiber Works
Yield: 456 yards
Weight: Worsted

In preparation for the spin-in, I decided to empty out my bobbins. This was an interesting fiber to work with, because of the breeds (Clun Forest and Corriedale x Merino) and the color blend. I had experimented with weights and plying, and decided to go with a finer single and Navajo ply, to preserve the color variegations. Knowing that I didn't want a muddy mix, I separated the roving into piles of pink, green, and pink/green and spun those alternately in varying amounts, to create a truly variegated single.

Pink and Green!

I'd rather show off my mistakes and have someone give me suggestions on how to fix them than hide them. A little humility does some good! Yes, some lengths of singles were either under- or over-spun. Yes, my chain ply is a bit loose. The skeins, off the niddy-noddy, were somewhat balanced--1 twist, not bad. I don't know if it was my "meh" attitude halfway through spinning this, because I know I could've done a lot better.

Skinny Fuzzity

Samples from the very beginning of this project. Back when days were cloudy and grey. What a difference sunlight makes.

Fat Fuzzity

Nevertheless, these are *my pretties*, and I'll probably use them for socks. Someday! Thanks again for the great fiber, Mia!

Listening to: So Long and Thanks for all the Fish from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy soundtrack. It's a ridiculous song, and I'm in the mood for the ridiculous!

Blogworthy: It's occurred to me that perhaps Bloglines has been dropping a few of my subscriptions. I know I subscribe to June's, and if I hadn't dropped by on my own, I never would've found minimiam! How clever the photography is. If you check out the Sports section, you'll find climbers on Mont Blanc, ha!

The Pinkness of it all

My apologies for the longer silences here at Yummy Yarn. I've been preoccupied and sometimes it's an effort to think of something to write about. But. The blog must be fed and groomed once a week, so here's this week's post.

I've been spinning. Yummy Pink (and green, and white) Clun/Cormo mix that I've drafted in strips or spun from the fold, for random variegation. I've so far gotten a fairly consistent single, referring to my sample quite often. I think I've got enough fiber to fill 2 more bobbins. The fiber is so soft and springy, unbelievably so. I need more of this stuff!

The yarn order included 2 balls (or should I call them 2 donut thingies) of Pink superwash yarn for a baby sweater, which I knit up in two days. More on that later. Oh yeah, I went to the library. More books! Thanks for reminding me about Philippa Gregory, Rose!

Blogworthy: Results of the May 1st reboot are up. In case you're interested. It's all Flash work. I'm of two minds regarding Flash; perhaps it's because I'm old school and learned the finer points and subtleties of print, which I see is sometimes lacking in web. On the other hand, some of it's cool, and not Flash for the sake of being Flash, but actually lends itself to the concept. Anyway, I've found a really great site I'll share later on (I gotta keep it to myself first!).

Secret Pal 2 Mia and I have been corresponding for a while now, and during MDSW she mentioned that she got me something special that Stephanie helped her pick. Then I went on vacation and came back and all that time I was wondering if she had sent the package while I was gone, but luckily she waited until I was back.

The waiting was worth it.

Yummy!

Fluffy goodness from Spirit Trail Fiberworks! Eight ounces of 50% Clun Forest Lamb/50% Cormo in pink, green and white! It is really beautiful. Thanks Mia! I seriously have to start thinking about getting a wheel, because this fiber is begging to be spun into something...

Another knitter (and non-blogger; believe me, I've tried to convince her) is Jennifer, with whom I had been discussing the Rebecca 25 Wine Red Top. Remember my knitting the Bellini Tank last year? Kris finished hers recently too. Well, Jennifer sent me pictures of hers, which was done in Patons Katrina in a lovely icy blue (or is it green?) shade. Doesn't it look great on her?

Gawgeous!

Gawgeous again!

Jennifer is currently working on Pia from Rowan 35. Someone else convince her to start a blog!
