A sudden burst

| | Comments (4)

All of a sudden I found myself in a creative whirlwind. I'd been thinking of what to do next, when it occurred to me that what I could do next, what I could really do next, was finish putting an old design to pdf for sale.

Arlecchino socks

Remember these textured diamond socks? Arlecchino will be published this Friday. I found my notes and made the chart and threw it all together. Unfortunately I couldn't find the original pictures (they're in a hard drive back home on the other side of the world), but the ones I've provided show the entire sock anyway. Whee!

Hailey's Zeebee hat

I swatched 4 yarns some days ago while sunning myself in the front yard. This was new to me, this swatching for future projects. Usually, by the time I get to knitting a swatch, I'll have selected a specific project to work on with a specific yarn. But I forced myself to knit 4 little stockinette squares because my creativity then had been at an all-time low. By the time I finished knitting, I knew what I wanted to do with each. Huh. I have to try that more often.

Above is a yarn with great texture, Phildar Ovation. It's a knitted tube with bouclé tufts poking out, and creates a stretchy fabric with a soft, bumpy, feathery hand. It's fun and pink, and that's all that matters when it comes to knitting hats for my niece Hailey. ("It must be peenk," I can hear her say.) I know she's way past Elmo and Dora; she may still be in Princess mode, sleeping in fluffy tulle gowns (no, not a dress, please) and crown; but she may also have discovered her mom's makeup, dresses, and heels. Hmm... I'm thinking Schmeebot's Zeebee, cleverly knit on the side--and!--all in garter stitch. I guess I'm still on a garter stitch kick, even after this:

Tate's Moderne Baby Blanket

Behold the monster garter stitch project! Fine yarn and needles do not make a big blanket, and I had to muster some will to finish it. Garter stitch, oh, you kill me but you look so good... The attached i-cord took some time, and I figured out a way to make decent corners as well. More on this project next week.

It's beginning to look and feel a lot more like fall. Even the vineyards are sporting bursts of red here and there...
