Attached i-Cord Corner

Here's part 2 of the Attached I-Cord Corner Tutorial (here's part 1). I hope you'll find it useful in your next blanket project! My apologies; these pictures were taken during a particularly gloomy week, so indoor—tungsten—lighting.

It doesn't matter which edge you start with on a blanket, just that you can identify side stitches and corner stitches.

It doesn't matter, either, how you pick up the stitches on the sides or on the cast-on or cast-off edges. You just need 4 corner stitches.

Attached I-Cord Corner

My I-Cord consists of 4 stitches: a 3-stitch i-cord plus 1 stitch for attaching it to the blanket. I followed Purl Soho's Attached I-Cord Tutorial with lots of clear pictures because it makes a nice, finished attachment. It also hides the blanket color well, so in this case where the edging is a different and lighter color than the blanket, it's a good choice. See Purl Soho's Attached I-Cord Tutorial and I-Cord Tutorial.

So. This is my i-cord row.

Knit 3 stitches. Slip the 4th stitch as if to purl. Yarn-over. Insert right needle into the blanket edge and knit a stitch, bringing the loop through the blanket. Pass the yarn-over and the slipped stitch over. Slide stitches to the right.

You will now knit the corner. Slip the 3rd and 4th stitches back to your needle. Slide your stitches to the right. Knit the i-cord row, knitting the corner stitch.

You will now finish the miter. Slip the 3rd and 4th stitches on the safety pin. Slide your stitches to the right. Knit 2 stitches.

Slip the 4th stitch back to your needle. Slide your stitches to the right. Knit the i-cord row, knitting the first stitch on your blanket after the corner stitch.

This is what you should have after the last step. If any stitches look wonky, tweak them a bit with one of your needles so they're the same.

Attached I-Cord Corner

Knit a few more rows of regular attached i-cord and you can see the corner a lot better.

A view of the back, just as neat as the front.

That's all there is to it. A neat little trick, a tiny detail, but one worth knitting. Use it on your next blanket!
