Creamy yarn

Fiber: Coopworth, 8oz
Vendor: Village Spin and Weave, Solvang, CA
Yield: 641 yards
Weight: Sport to DK

All done. This was such a pleasure to spin with! You can see from the picture above my technical progress. From left to right, my first skein to my last. And my sample plied skein. The first skein has a bit of a crunchy hand; this was where I experimented with tensions, ratios, and spinning techniques. So, it's a little more "uptight" than the others. I'm most proud of my last skein, which has enough halo and loft to make it quite soft. The singles of the last skein were spun almost perfectly balanced and I was tempted to leave it at that. My plying, though, was just as good: 2 twists in the skein!

Creamy yarn

It needs a little color, so I'm going to look into Kool-Aid for dyeing. And *only* Kool-Aid. Oh no, don't try to convince me. I don't have enough time to do dyeing, and besides, other more talented knitbloggers are already doing it exceptionally well. Anyway, I'm thinking blues, greens and teals. I'm thinking about the color of the waves as they break on the sandbars. Or perhaps a little deeper? Or less saturated? Or more saturated? So many possibilities. It reminded me of one of Stephanie's little stories in At Knit's End about tring to find the perfect yarn that was the color of a specific blue that she remembered, and discovering that she could just do it with dyeing. Kool-Aid, here I come!

ohhh I tried to steal this yarn through my monitor, darn, just didn't happen! It's so lovely. Can't wait to see it dyed.

Good job :) I can see the difference between the first and last skeins, and the plying is really nice! What are you going to make with it after dyeng?

Your spinning is beautiful - I can't wait to get to that level myself. I'm realizing (with horror - oh the shock to my budget!) that I won't stay away from a wheel much longer. As for dying, I think you have the requisite talent, but I hear what you're saying about time - there's only so much in a day! Can't wait to see the koolaid confection. xox,

Oh, MJ! You just don't know. That dyeing stuff is addictive! I started with Kool-aid, and now have moved on to "other" dyes. My ultimate goal is to learn how to pull dyes out of natural sources. Please post pictures of you K-A dyeing results!

Beautiful! I'm afraid to move past kool-aid dying - all we need is another addictive pasttime! :)

Hey, thanks for the link! Your yarn is looking great, and you'll love dyeing. Kool-Aid's a great way to start, I've seen some really neat colorways out there done with kool-aid (or should I say "kool kolorways? that would be pretty cheeseball) and there's good info on it online. Nothing wrong with it.

I was spinning last night and I realised a do have a very quiet kind of clicking and there is sort of an optical wobble when I look at my wheel from the spinning position, but it's normal, and there isn't any movement when I grasp the wheel and try to tilt it and this wobble perception is slight and doesn't affect the spinning. I thought I should pass that along.
Take care,

Lovely! I like it creamy white, but then color is good too... I still need to mail off your handcarders, pardon my mid-moving slowness... I left them at my parent's house. Bah!

Isn't spinning fun! Isn't it even more fun when it works out? And dyeing is even more fun, even if it doesn't do as it is told!

The yarn looks perfect. I can't wait to see your Kool-Aid dye job although I do love the white color that it is now.

beautiful yarn! seeing yours makes me want to try some plying with a bit less twist - i think i over-twist and as a result my plyed yarn never looks so smooshy as yours do.

and yay for kool-aid. i keep meaning to try the same - and those cushing dyes call out to me too ;)

I love your yarn, I have yet to start the spinning addiction, but I am definitely interested in doing it. I already have a supplier of sheep's wool, now I just need to get the wheel. Anyway, the kool-aid dying is so fun and easy. I just tried it a couple of weeks ago and was inspired by a knitting friend of mine over at www.elliphantom.com Enjoy!!!
