Yes, this is another Baby Sock
My friends... They indulge my baby sock knitting habit by having more babies! He he he!

Pattern: Wendy Johnson's Toe-Up Socks, Priscilla Gibson's Short Row Technique, and my combination of 2-stitch single and double cables. Easy enough.
Yarn: The neverending ball of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in #32 Somerset
Needles US1 dpns. I *heart* bamboo needles!
I *really* like variegated yarn for socks. I like the unpredictability of color arrangement in the knittted fabric, and the overall combination makes people look closer. I haven't tried the faux Fair Isle striping yarns yet; suffice it to say that I am not really interested because of lack of spontaneity. There is a pattern, it will come out when it's knitted, you knit in stockinette, ta-da. Some of you may think I'm full of it; what are your thoughts on self-patterning or variegated sock yarn?
Anyway, my short list for sock knitting yarns is below. Please feel free to name more. You know I want to try them all!
- Skacel Trekking XXL in #100, #105 Autumn, #67 Pastel, #92 Shades of Tan and Cream, #90 Brown and Olive, and #96 Khaki and Tan. Oh heck, all of 'em. Except the self-patterning.
- Koigu KPPPM. Secret Pal 2 Elizabeth gave me one skein of it in pinks. Must amass more to create a Koigu stash of my own. More more more!
- Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock. What a great name!
Added 07.21.05I'm adding Lorna's Lace's, because the colors are amazing. Of course, my new favorites are now #32 Somerset, #70 Vera, #105 Glenwood, #112 Sandridge, and #403 Tuscany. Margene posted an article on socks as well which was great timing with mine. More sock yarn suggestions!

SO, so cute! I love them! Especially the little cables.
I'm with you on the fair isle type sock patterns, but I do like stripes.
GOSH, those are cute! I love the little baby cables on them :)
The socks I am doing now are Trekking XXL in 101--I am quite fond of that colorway. I love the Trekking choices.
Take care!
eeeek! too much cuteness! and i whole heartedly agree about self-striping/varigated. pooling? bring it on!
The Fleece Artist merino sock yarn is pretty fabulous. it doens't always come out stripey, just multicoloured. It feels great after wearing too.
Regia's mini-ringel is 'clean' stripey yarn. wool = hot (as in not for today)!
Everything on your list is well worth trying. I also love Mountain Colors (Bearfoot or Weavers Wool Quarters). But I do find the self-patterning yarns very limiting. It's hard to do anything other than a plain or ribbed sock. Lace and texture don't show up well. I find myself more and more interested in solid colored sock yarn lately.
This is just so cute! I'm going to keep coming back to look at your commenters' sock yarn suggestions! Thanks for the info on sock yarns.
Those baby socks are too cute. I am secretyl tempted to get pregnant again just to be able to knit for another baby. I can't wait for the pattern, just to knit something so cute.
I handpainted some yarn for my sockapal2za-pal. They are too fun to knit up, you get lost in the colours!
i love the baby socks and that yarn!
I don't think you're full of it. You just have a different opinion than mine. Nothing wrong with that. When I started sock knitting, I did purchase a lot of the fair-isle sock yarn. I still have some and I like the socks just fine and actually until the pair of socks I recently finished, most of my socks were in stockinette and the self-patterning sock yarns did their thing. They're not all fair isle, actually most of them now are different types.
Regia makes some great sock yarns, not all are fair-isle or jacquard anymore. The Line Steps one is a fave of mine, Multi-Effeckt Color and strato color ones are fun too. I have the ringel, but haven't tried it.
Trekking is a great sock yarn and always knits up so nicely.
Opal is another good one that I didn't see on your list. There are handpaints and there are some that are patterned and some of the older ones up for sale on Ebay that are variegated, but not patterned or the pattern is pretty random, so you just keep knitting b/c you don't know what you will get. Also, with Opal they put out some limited edition crocodile socks at one point, the tiger socks, the bumblebee ones, which are kind of fun too.
Those are so beautiful! I need to start in on the baby items. One co-worker of mind is due early October... oh no, thats getting close!
So many yarns...so little time;-)
They're adorable! I'm knitting baby socks as well, sadly most everyone is having boys, so they're all blues and greens. There is one girl though, so she's getting Knit Happens socks. (BTW Knit Happens is having a sale on the Tuscany colorway...)
your neice is really cute... your SIL must be cracking that whip to tame a rounder:) or maybe they are madly in love ;) adore the socks they are really cute. couldn't comment on thursdays post, only permalink is up?
ohhh, I love those socks. Which has made me decide to cast on for the socks in the Debbie Bliss simple living. They're sweet and have cables too. Now where to buy bamboo dpns is the next question. I only have metal ones...
