Cable Rib Socks

| | Comments (13)

Back with a vengeance! Or at least until I finish answering all your emails. Thank you for commenting on my posts while I was gone; I am returning the favor by answering back but it may take a few days.

Another submission to Emy's Baby Knitalong. Hah, these were easy-peasy! These socks were knit for our friends' daughter, back in Nurnberg/Nuremberg. I've been told they fit. Yay! Below I present their progress in the Spain series:

I'm almost over the jet lag but for the occasional dizziness that for some reason won't go away (no, I'm not pregnant; yes, I"ve been eating; no, my ponytail is not too tight). Being away from the computer and knitting, for the most part, was a good break. We got to ride our bikes and not keep track of time; drive around the countryside looking for rocks to climb; walk around town hand in hand, sharing ein bretzel or un helado; succumb to curiosity and look at things and buildings and take pictures. It was so relaxing.

Regular posting will be postponed until the middle of next week, I theeenk, because I'm still in vacation mode. In the meantime, I'd like to share some of the other blogs I've been reading; maybe you'll find them as interesting as I have.

  1. Time Magazine recently published its 50 Coolest Websites of 2005, even though the year is only half over. Whatever, right? Here's the Blogs section.
  2. Petite Anglaise is a Brit living in Paris. She is quite a good storyteller. I think I found her through Kate, so a belated thanks to her!
  3. Waiter Rant is a New York waiter's blog. The apostrophes show up as code on my Mac; a little irritating, but not enough to detract from his stories.
  4. Fussy has bite.
  5. Infrangible has good pictures and a nice blog design.
  6. I Was Just Really Very Hungry's post on strawberries reminded me of our walk in the quarry outside Nuremberg, where wild strawberries grew like red-dotted rugs on the ground. Aargh! I'm thinking of vacation again!!!

Enjoy your weekend!

It's all in the details

Got back yesterday evening, it was a looong flight! Barcelona was nice, but the countryside was even better. I took pictures, didn't buy much souvenirs, as we were just trying to enjoy the moment and not get caught up in acquiring stuff. Gotta get some rest. Will post more this week.

Detail

I finally have a good photo showing the yarn I'm using for the smock jacket in its multicolored glory. It's Baruffa/Lane Borgosesia's Aerobic, a 100% 4-ply merino yarn that's been long discontinued. Anyway, from far the yarn has a delicate lilac color, but upon closer inspection it's actually a mottled mix of blues and pinks.

Equal Opportunity Spinner

Hallo! Vielen danke für dieses e-mails. I wish I could read them all and catch up with the blogs but we only have so much time before doing other things... It seems everyone wants a piece of us! Germany has been incredible, and tomorrow (probably by the time you read this) we'll be on our way to Spain. I've finished my first sock, about to start on the second. Fiddling with 5 weisswurst skewers (BF's lovely term) seems a little difficult, but I can see how people can get obsessed with knitting them. That's all for the knitting content; until next week, tchuss!

Top and Bottom Whorls

I took out the bottom whorl spindle last night and did some spinning. I'm glad I picked the bottom whorl as a beginning spindle because it's slower than the top and easier to park-and-draft with. That said, I do like my Kundert because it's faster--way faster--and I can load it up with more yarn than the bottom whorl (attributed to the fact that the Kundert's whorl is wider).

Hallo! Diese ist MJ von Nürnberg! BF and I are having a great time, and he had a good reunion with his family. The food is good (a little heavy), the beer even better, the sights great! Will blog more when I get back. Hope alles sind gute. Tchuss!

Left and Right

Left and right pieces all completed. My buttonholes were the simple eyelet type consisting of a yo, k2tog combination, and I decided to leave it at that and not go around exploring for another version! Next up: sleeve island! Care to join me?

Hailey

Hailey says, "Dadadadadamamamamama ducky flower owie". Which pretty much translates to "Wow, auntie MJ! I love the cables and those kick-ass bobbles." Oops, did she really say "kick-ass"?
